Hepatitis C (HCV)

Liver cells infected with Hepatitis C
Release aims to increase the number of HCV infected drug users on treatment programmes.
Recent NICE guidelines state that all persons are entitled to treatment for Hepatitis C. Treating injecting drug users who are infected with Hep C is central to any public health strategy for containing the virus. From a public health perspective, logic dictates that the most important group to treat are those who are currently sharing needles and equipment. However, some individuals continue to deny treatment to patients who are drug users and dismiss their diagnosis as inevitable and unimportant.
Release is compiling evidence of failure to treat Hep C patients who currently use drugs. Please get in touch with us if you have information regarding this.
