2CB

what is it?

2CB (4-bromo-2, dimethoxyphenethylamine) is sometimes sold as Ecstasy. However, users may find the effects to be entirely different from those of Ecstasy.

what does it look like?

2CB is usually sold in tablet or capsule form and occasionally as a powder. It is impossible to tell the contents of a tablet from its appearance. Kits are on sale in the UK to test the contents, but these are not entirely reliable.

how is it used?

2CB is usually taken orally but can be smoked or snorted.

what are the effects?

The effects of 2CB depend upon a variety of factors including the amount and the surroundings in which it is taken. The effects also very from person to person. Users have reported heightened visual imagery, acute awareness of their bodies and increased sensitivity to smells, tastes and sexual stimulation.

The effects are more psychedelic than with Ecstasy and less empathic, and seem to last from 2 to 8 hours. Its use is associated with Ecstasy as it is thought to prolong the ìhighî effects of Ecstasy when taken towards the end of the high.

what are the side effects?

Little is known about the possible long-term effects of 2CB use and this is an area that medical research is only now exploring. 2CB should be avoided by people with mental health problems. It can cause or exacerbate depression and other mental illnesses. It can also cause fatigue.

is it addictive?

2CB isn't physically addictive. A psychological dependence (when you feel that you
cannot do without something) can occur, although this is unlikely.

what is the legal position?

2CB is a Class A drug.

It is illegal to possess, supply or produce 2CB.

It is illegal for occupiers of premises, or anyone concerned in the management of premises, to allow those premises to be used for production or supply of 2CB.

Being unfit to drive under the influence of any intoxicant, including 2CB, is an offence which is likely to lead to the loss of your driving licence. Getting your licence back and obtaining insurance after losing it are likely to be difficult. Sentences, especially for supply (including giving or selling to friends), can be heavy.
Possession of even a small number of tablets can lead to a charge for intent to supply. Sentences for drug offences depend upon the quantities involved, previous convictions and other relevant circumstances.
