Release has released a video to coincide with the United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which is marked on 26 June. Every year countries around the world resolve to continue their fight against drug use and trafficking – with a view to achieving a world free of illicit drugs. Countries such as China show their resolve by executing dozens of people in the weeks preceding the 26 June and on the day itself. Six people have already been executed by firing squad in the last two days. Despite the fact the United Nations actively advocates against the death penalty, there is little or no condemnation from either the UNODC or world leaders. Many of these leaders have themselves used drugs and despite their own experiences they have remained silent on the subject. The hypocrisy of these politicians and the damage caused by current drug laws is what this film highlights. Watch now
