Submission to the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs' call for evidence on custody-community transitions

Release's submission to the ACMD's Custody-Community Transitions Working Group in response to their call for evidence on custody-community transitions. 

Issues explored include:

  • Drug-related deaths in police custody; 
  • Random mandatory drug testing in prisons; 
  • Take-home naloxone provision to people released from custody; 
  • Developments in diversion from custody;
  • Distribution of harms across different groups of people who use drugs (e.g. by ethnic group, gender, housing status); 
  • Healthcare in custody for people who use drugs; 
  • Harmful effects of the current legislative framework; 
  • The right to the highest attainable standard of health for people who use drugs
