Fenella has been a solicitor apprentice at Release since February 2025. She joined Release in 2021 as an Advocate for people in drug treatment, working in particular with people facing reductions or removals of their injectable OST scripts – a role she loved. After taking on legal casework in 2023, she decided to pursue becoming a solicitor. Fenella cares deeply about the rights and lives of people who use drugs, seeing her legal casework as one way among many that someone can practise harm reduction.
Alongside her legal casework, she contributes to Release’s policy work and research on the criminalisation of people who use drugs and decriminalisation models. Before Release, Fenella represented renters in legal cases in the First-tier Tribunal. Whilst completing her law conversion in 2023/4, she worked part-time at Release as a Legal Policy Researcher, researching stop & search data.
